Charity endorsement for the NIBCSP.
Beating Bowel Cancer, dedicated to raising awareness of bowel cancer and providing information and support to patients, the public and the medical profession, is supporting the NIBCSP, which was launched in April this year.
Hilary Whittaker Chief Executive of Beating Bowel Cancer said "The case for routine regular bowel cancer screening has already been proved beyond doubt. Whilst we welcome the Government's proposed introduction of the NHS bowel cancer screening programme we believe that screening should be available more quickly and opened up to people outside the 60 to 69 age range that has been proposed in England. The NIBCSP testing scheme is available to everyone across the UK right now and the price is a very modest amount to pay for peace of mind."
Hilary Whittaker also said "The NIBCSP provides a testing kit that takes samples to be analysed in their own dedicated laboratory for analysis by properly trained personnel, and we believe that this represents a major step forward in early detection of this disease. In the past we have been unable to recommend any commercial bowel cancer screening system, because they were all "self-test" procedures which could run the risk of inaccuracy due to user error."
Mr Ian Cowie, Programme Director for the NIBCSP said "we are delighted that Beating Bowel Cancer are supporting us and we look forward to working together to raise awareness of bowel cancer and the importance of bowel cancer screening."
